The following is a listing of a few of the hundreds of foundation projects that he has worked on:

Petrozuata VEHOP Venezuela Extra Heavy Oil Project, Jose, Venezuela, 1998 - 1999

Design, field testing, hammer selection, wave equation analyses, lateral load analyses, pile evaluation and approval of 36" O.D. concrete cylinder piles for barge wharf and 54" O.D. concrete cylinder piles for jetty trestle and offshore loading platform; drivability study and lateral load evaluation of 36" O.D. steel anchor piles for single buoy mooring system; used PDA data and soil freeze evaluations to establish reasonable and safe pile driving criteria.

ENRON ECO ELECTRICA LNG Project, Ponce, Puerto Rico, 1998 - 1999

Design, field testing, lateral load evaluation, wave equation analyses, evaluation and approval for LNG pipe line trestle and loading platform. Piles were 54" O.D. and 66" O.D. concrete cylinder piles. Evaluation of lateral capacity and drivability analysis of 96" O.D. x 131 feet to 171 feet long mono-piles for mooring dolphins and breasting dolphins. Evaluation of PDA data to confirm lateral capacity of the mono-piles.

U.S. Navy Submarine Wharf, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, 1996 - 1997

Pre-bid study which led to an average 60 feet reduction in the originally designed pile lengths. This led to significant savings for the Navy on the project. These reduced pile lengths were confirmed by field testing including PDA dynamic testing and static load testing. My work included the original pre-bid study, field testing, wave equation analyses, pile drivability studies, and evaluation of the field testing results.

Ju'Aymah LPG Trestle, Saudi Arabia - on site 18 months

Raymond Saudi Arabia, Ltd., Chief Foundation Engineer

Supervised civil engineers and drafters on site for all field civil engineering and geotechnical engineering work by Raymond Saudi Arabia Ltd. for Aramco's LPG trestle project at Ju'Aymah. As technical representative on site, inspected, designed, and approved all foundation engineering aspects of the trestle construction. Work assignments included:

  • Writing all load test procedures for lateral, tension, and compression tests on Raymond cylinder piles
  • Designing load test systems including structures and instrumentation
  • Conducting load tests, interpreting load test data, and applying load test data to pile design and driving criteria
  • Writing a complete load test report for Aramco
  • Determining need for soil/rock borings, logging the borings, testing rock/soil samples, evaluating boring data, and specifying predrilling depths for piles
  • Rewriting job specifications including pile installation procedures, pile crack evaluation and repair procedures, broken-pile evaluation and repair procedures, etc.
  • Evaluating and approving each pile in the structure individually
  • Inspecting, evaluating, and designing repair procedures for damaged/broken piles
  • Evaluating cracks in piles and recommending and supervising crack repairs

Polk County Parkway, Lakeland, Florida

Drawing soil boring profiles to evaluate soil conditions; settlement calculations of embankments; check designs of MSE walls and temporary Hillfacker walls; mapping and evaluating extensive slime pit deposits; design of wick drains and surcharge system to stabilize embankment fills over extensive, deep, slime deposits; pile tip elevation predictions based on soil boring data.

Mass Rapid Transit System, Honolulu, Hawaii

Re-design of pile and pier foundations for 17 mile alignment.

Megaland Resort Development, Mazatlan, Mexico

Design of 25 ft. high PVC plastic bulkhead 13,000 ft. long.

U.S. Navy Home Port, Ingleside, Texas

Pre-bid studies, pile drivability studies, pile foundation re-design, field dynamic monitoring, conducted load test program, developed pile driving criteria, evaluated driven piles and approved piles for construction.

U.S. Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida

Pile dynamic monitoring program, conducted pile load tests, developed pile driving criteria.

Waterford Harbor, Clear Lake, Texas

Slope stability studies, pile lateral analyses, 11,000 foot bulkhead, soil compaction evaluation.
